Indoor vs. Outdoor Golf: 7 Surprising Benefits of Playing Inside

Whether you’re a seasoned golfer or a weekend warrior, one thing’s for sure—Mother Nature doesn’t always cooperate with your tee time. That’s where indoor golf comes in. At Albatross Indoor Golf Centre in Ancaster, we’ve created the ultimate space for golfers in Hamilton, Dundas, Burlington, and Stoney Creek to practice, play, and enjoy the game year-round.

So, how does indoor golf really stack up against the traditional outdoor course? Let’s break down the 7 surprising benefits of indoor golf—and why it might just become your new go-to.

1. All-Season Play – Rain, Snow, or Shine

Canada’s weather isn’t exactly golf-friendly year-round. Between snow-covered fairways and rainy afternoons, your golf plans can be hit or miss.

With indoor golf simulators, your game is always on—no rescheduling, no rain delays. At Albatross, you can swing your driver even in January while the snow piles up outside.

2. World-Class Courses Without Leaving Ancaster

Ever dreamed of playing Pebble Beach or St. Andrews?

Thanks to Golfzon simulator technology, Albatross gives you access to hundreds of world-renowned golf courses right here in Ancaster. You can travel the world without the cost of flights or green fees—just bring your clubs and play.

3. Perfect for Beginners and Pros Alike

Whether you’re fine-tuning your swing or picking up a club for the first time, indoor golf offers a low-pressure, high-tech environment to practice.

Our simulators give you real-time feedback on swing speed, launch angle, spin, and more—something even many outdoor driving ranges can’t offer. It’s like having a virtual coach with every shot.

4. Night Golf Is Always an Option

When the sun sets, outdoor courses close. But at Albatross, the game doesn’t stop.

Indoor golf lets you tee off after work, on a Friday night, or even for a midnight tournament. We’re open late and offer flexible booking options, so you can fit golf into your schedule, not the other way around.

5. Great for Groups, Parties & Events

Planning a birthday party, corporate event, or guys’ night out? Traditional golf courses aren’t always the easiest or most fun venue for group activities, especially if not everyone plays.

At Albatross, our simulators are perfect for social events, and we’ve got food, drinks, and racing simulators to keep the fun going off the green, too. It’s competitive, casual, and guaranteed fun—even for non-golfers.

6. Faster Rounds, No Waiting

Let’s be honest—18 holes on an outdoor course can take 4–5 hours, especially on a busy weekend.

Indoor golf gives you the ability to play a full round in about an hour per person, with no waiting on the group ahead of you. That means more golf in less time—and fewer frustrated sighs on the fairway.

7. Climate-Controlled Comfort (and Clean Shoes!)

No sunscreen, no windburn, no muddy shoes.

When you play at Albatross, you’re golfing in comfort. Our climate-controlled facility means you stay cool in summer and warm in winter. Plus, there’s no need to walk 5 miles in spikes—unless you really want to.

You can show up in casual wear, enjoy a drink between shots, and stay dry no matter the weather outside.

FAQ

How does pricing work?

We charge per hour per bay only. We do not charge per person. You can have up to 4 people at the same bay and pay the same hourly rate.

Yes. A valid credit card is still required to secure your booking. Bring your physical gift card or voucher with you to your reservation. Our team will apply the balance to your bill in-house at the end of your visit.

What makes our golf simulators different?

Our GolfZon simulators offer one of the most advanced indoor golf experiences in the world, with features designed to make every round feel like the real thing:

Automatic Ball Teeing – No bending or chasing balls; the system tees it up for you every time.
Tilting Swing Plate – The hitting platform lifts and tilts to recreate uphill, downhill, and sidehill lies.
Short Game Realism – From chips and putts to flop shots, Golfzon’s short game play is as true-to-life as it gets.
Unmatched Accuracy – Overhead high-speed cameras capture club and ball data with incredible precision, including ball speed, spin, carry, and trajectory.
300+ Courses Worldwide – Play on some of the best courses from around the globe, all in stunning detail.

What is the VIP Bay?

Our VIP Bay is a private, premium simulator space designed for an elevated golf experience. It features a Golfzon simulator with all the same advanced technology—moving swing plate, auto-tee, and world-class courses—but in a larger, enclosed room with extra seating and comfort. It’s perfect for private groups, corporate events, celebrations, or anyone looking for a little more space and exclusivity while they play.

Does the floor really move?

Yes, it does! The Golfzon hydraulic swing plate lifts and tilts to recreate uphill, downhill, and sidehill lies for a truly realistic challenge. You’ll also find different hitting surfaces—fairway, rough, and sand—to match your shot. And no shortcuts: the system knows where the ball is and will apply a distance penalty if you hit from the wrong area.

How many players can use one bay?

Each simulator bay can comfortably accommodate 4 players. It’s ideal for solo practice sessions, friendly games, or group events like leagues and parties.

How long does it take to play 18 holes?

A single player can complete 18 holes in about 1 hour. Groups of 4 usually take around 3 – 4 hours, depending on the pace of play.

Do I need to bring my own golf clubs and balls?

We recommend bringing your own clubs for the most authentic experience, but we also have rental sets available if needed. Golfzon simulators are designed to work with all standard clubs. As for balls, you don’t need to bring any—our simulators use high-quality balls specifically designed for accurate play and tracking.

Is there an app to track my stats?

Yes! The free Golfzon app (available on Google Play and the App Store) records all your rounds and keeps track of your stats once you create a profile. You’ll be able to see your average driving distance, fairway and green percentages, and average putts per round. After a few games, the app even calculates your handicap—perfect for use in our leagues and tournaments.

Where is the racing simulator located?

Our racing simulator is exclusively available at our Stoney Creek location at Albatross Indoor Golf.
