5 Fun Golf Date Ideas That are Great For Couples

Whether you’re on you’re first date or have been married for 20+ years, golf is a great pastime for couples to enjoy together. Learn how to go on a golf date that’s enjoyable for pro golfers and beginners alike.

Golf’s popularity is definitely on the rise, and there’s an even more diverse range of options available – from glow-in-the-dark mini-putting to indoor golf simulators like ours at Albatross Golf.

Is a golf date a good idea?

Whether you regularly golf with your partner or simply want to spice up your next date night with a new sport outside of your comfort zone, it’s a great year-round activity for couples to enjoy, especially when our lovely Ontario winters aren’t cooperating with our outdoor date plans.

Let’s look at a few options you can find in and around the Hamilton area to help you plan your next date night!

Indoor Golf Simulator

Call us biased, but we think indoor golf is some of the best fun you can have and one of the best unique date ideas for couples – that’s why we built our simulator venue. With simulators, you get an interactive and engaging experience in a simpler, lower-pressure environment compared to a traditional course.

Here’s why indoor golf makes for a great date night:

  • Year-Round Comfort. Like glow-in-the-dark golf, simulators completely remove weather from the equation. Whether it’s snowing, raining, or too hot, the weather has no bearing on your ability to have a good time. And if you can only get out at night, there’s always light to play indoors.

  • Relaxed & Relatively Private. Unless you rent out the whole facility, there will be other golfers around you – but you’re typically in your own defined bay. These bays are more private than a wide-open range or mini-golf course, so you can have easier conversation and less self-consciousness – especially if you or your date are new to golfing.

  • Low-Pressure Learning. If one or both of you are beginners at golf, simulators are ideal. Albatross’s GOLFZON sims have features like auto-teeing, different game modes, and clear data feedback (if you want it!) without the pressure of keeping pace or losing balls. You can just relax and swing.

  • Beyond Golf. It’s an entire entertainment experience. Play famous courses you’d never have the chance to try otherwise, try fun target games, or even switch it up with some race simulators.

  • Food & Drinks On Hand. No need to pause the fun or wait for the beer cart to pass. Our lounge and bar mean you can easily order drinks and snacks right to your bay area. We even created packages specifically meant to enjoy on a date night, like “Fore the Love of Golf” that bundle everything together – enjoy two hours of golf, a charcuterie box, and a drink flight each.

2. Mini-Golf Date Night

Mini-golf is a classic for a reason – it’s casual, low-pressure, and pretty much guarantees at least a few laughs. Trying to navigate those obstacles can break the ice and move past the initial awkward small talk. And if you’ve been a couple for a long time, it’s still a fun, affordable date that nearly anybody (at any skill level) can do.

Most outdoor mini-golf spots have a fun, relaxed vibe, often with snacks available nearby, making it easy to extend the date afterward. It’s also the least physically demanding option on this list and welcomes all skill levels. Here in Ontario, it’s mostly a seasonal activity, perfect for those warmer evenings – but you can also find indoor options, too.

3. Indoor Glow-in-the-Dark Mini Golf

Though we get more sunny hours in the summer, outdoor mini-putt can still be harder at dusk – and bugs often come out in full-swing (excuse the golf joke). If you want a different twist on mini-golf or want to take the date inside, try a golf-in-the-dark version.

These indoor spots swap out sunshine for black lights, often adding fun, upbeat music, unique themes, and maybe even some arcade games. You can dial up the novelty factor and enjoy in any type of weather – and any time within their open hours.

Since these spots can have loud music and get quite busy, they’re best for a fun date with someone you already know well – if you want deep conversation, you might want to meet up afterward or plan to eat or have a drink after. For energetic fun and a full visual experience, it’s definitely worth checking out.

4. Driving Range

A traditional driving range is one of the best simple, low-stakes, and usually budget-friendly golf date ideas. You and your date can grab a bucket (or two) and spend some time driving balls side-by-side. No chasing after them afterward!

It’s casual, low-key, and less structured than a traditional game. You get to enjoy practicing and spending time together with the distractions you’d have on a golf course. If you both enjoy working on your technique, it can be satisfying practice. And if one date tires of swinging sooner than the other, they can hang up their club and relax close by to their partner.

On a nice day, being outdoors is a big plus. Of course, outdoor dates are weather-dependent, so it’s smart to have a rainy day back-up plan ready just in case.

5. Golf Resorts

A golf resort getaway is the ultimate golf date, though it’s generally best for couples who have made it past at least a few dates – not exactly first-date material. For a truly special occasion or a bigger gesture, consider a golf resort getaway. This moves beyond a single date night into a mini-vacation territory. Canada has some stunning resorts, from Muskoka to the Rockies and beyond, built around beautiful courses.

The key here is that top resorts offer much more than just golf. Think fine dining, spas, pools, hiking, scenic views, and other activities. If your partner isn’t as golf-obsessed as you might be, they get a pile of enjoyable options, too! It’s definitely a splurge and requires more planning, but for a milestone celebration, it can be incredibly memorable.

What makes our golf simulators different?

Our GolfZon simulators offer one of the most advanced indoor golf experiences in the world, with features designed to make every round feel like the real thing:

  • Automatic Ball Teeing – No bending or chasing balls; the system tees it up for you every time.
  • Tilting Swing Plate – The hitting platform lifts and tilts to recreate uphill, downhill, and sidehill lies.

What is the VIP Bay?

Our VIP Bay is a private, premium simulator space designed for an elevated golf experience. It features a Golfzon simulator with all the same advanced technology—moving swing plate, auto-tee, and world-class courses—but in a larger, enclosed room with extra seating and comfort. It’s perfect for private groups, corporate events, celebrations, or anyone looking for a little more space and exclusivity while they play.

Does the floor really move?

Yes, it does! The Golfzon hydraulic swing plate lifts and tilts to recreate uphill, downhill, and sidehill lies for a truly realistic challenge. You’ll also find different hitting surfaces—fairway, rough, and sand—to match your shot. And no shortcuts: the system knows where the ball is and will apply a distance penalty if you hit from the wrong area.

How many players can use one bay?

Each simulator bay can comfortably accommodate 4 players. It’s ideal for solo practice sessions, friendly games, or group events like leagues and parties.

How long does it take to play 18 holes?

A single player can complete 18 holes in about 1 hour. Groups of 4 usually take around 3 – 4 hours, depending on the pace of play.

Do I need to bring my own golf clubs and balls?

We recommend bringing your own clubs for the most authentic experience, but we also have rental sets available if needed. Golfzon simulators are designed to work with all standard clubs. As for balls, you don’t need to bring any—our simulators use high-quality balls specifically designed for accurate play and tracking.

Is there an app to track my stats?

Yes! The free Golfzon app (available on Google Play and the App Store) records all your rounds and keeps track of your stats once you create a profile. You’ll be able to see your average driving distance, fairway and green percentages, and average putts per round. After a few games, the app even calculates your handicap—perfect for use in our leagues and tournaments.

Where is the racing simulator located?

Our racing simulator is exclusively available at our Stoney Creek location at Albatross Indoor Golf.
